Backyard Turf Overhaul
After
Artificial grass is a fantastic investment for St. Pete homeowners—if it is installed correctly. A cheap turf job is a nightmare. It shifts, sags, wrinkles, and if you have dogs, it will quickly turn your backyard into a foul-smelling swamp.
At Dreams Into Reality, we specialize in high-end, heavy-duty artificial grass installations. We know all the corners that cheap crews cut to get their prices down, and we explain exactly how we avoid them.
Anatomy of a Flawless Turf Job
To make turf last for its full 10-to-15-year lifespan, four elements must be done to perfection:
1. The Right Drainage Base (Limestone vs. Concrete)
A standard $6-to-$7 per square foot installer will scrape away grass and lay down a thin layer of crushed concrete. Concrete is cheap, but it holds onto ammonia. When dogs pee on pet turf laid over concrete, the urine gets trapped between the backing and the base. It forms a film of urea that smells terrible and is impossible to rinse out.
We install 3 to 4 inches of compacted crushed limestone. Limestone allows liquid to drain directly into the ground, neutralizing odors and keeping your lawn clean and fresh.
2. Taut, Locked-Down Edges (Poly Nailer Boards)
Cheap installations secure the edges with simple lawn spikes. Over time, the ground shifts, and the turf begins to pull up at the corners, creating tripping hazards.
We install a full perimeter of 4-inch heavy-duty poly nailer boards and staple the turf directly to them. This ensures the lawn remains locked in place, perfectly flat, and completely taut forever.
3. Proper Infill Weight (Blades That Stand Tall)
Infill is the sand-like material brushed into the turf. It sits at the bottom of the blades to keep them standing upright. Cheap installers skimp on infill, leaving you with flat, matted green carpet that looks fake. We use 1.5 to 2 pounds of infill per square foot, ensuring a natural, lush look and feel.
4. Barefoot-Friendly Cooling
In the blazing Florida sun, cheap synthetic turf can get hot enough to burn paws and bare feet. We offer a specialized water-activated cooling infill blend. A quick spray of water activates a cooling agent that lowers turf temperatures by 20 to 40 degrees, making your lawn comfortable even in July.
Buy once, cry once. Invest in a premium turf installation that looks like real grass and stands up to pets, heat, and time.
